Mrs. Hinlicky's and Ms. Cunningham's science classes work on STEM project. Students needed to determine the best cooling chemical and then design a delivery system that could be used by a consumer to cool the soda and then keep it cooler longer.

Students had to test a variety of chemicals to determine which produced endothermic reactions and would potentially cool the room temperature soda can. They then retested, with differing concentration amounts, those chemicals to see what amounts produced acceptable results in cooling. Once that was determined, they designed a device that would cool the soda and allow the consumer to drink the soda without contaminating the drink, all while minimizing thermal energy transfer. One person from each group hosted small groups of students during the Argumentation Session, while their partners traveled to several other groups, asked probing questions to help the group strengthen their initial arguments. They then came back together to refine their arguments and prepare their individual final reports.
